Key takeaways
- A good consultation diagnoses before it prescribes: the symptom you name is often not where growth is stuck.
- For pest control, the hidden leaks are usually one-time treatments that never become plans, cancellations, and leads far off your routes.
- You leave with five ranked moves, each with an owner and a date, whether or not you hire us.
- Bring exports from PestPac, GorillaDesk or FieldRoutes and access to your Google accounts, and the hour goes much further.
A marketing consultant for a pest control company should work like a good diagnostician: listen to the symptom, test the system, then name the cause. Our free growth consultation does that for your Google profile, website, ads and follow-up, and for the step most marketers skip, turning first treatments into recurring plans that stay.
What a growth consultation covers
It covers the full path from a pest sighting to a renewed plan, because in this business the leak is rarely where the owner feels it. "We need more leads" is the most common opening line. Often the calls are there and something downstream is losing them.
| What you tell us | What we check | Where the problem often hides |
|---|---|---|
| "The phone is too quiet" | Map Pack position, categories, reviews, ad coverage by service | The profile ranks near the shop and disappears a few miles out |
| "Leads are expensive" | Cost per lead against cost per booked plan | Leads arrive, but only a few become plans |
| "We are busy but not growing" | Cancellations and plan length in your software | Accounts drop after the first year faster than you add them |
| "Spring is chaos, winter is dead" | Call handling in peak weeks, off-season offers | Missed calls in swarm season, nothing sold for fall rodent work |
| "Ads work, then stop" | Search terms, locations, hours | Spend on areas your routes do not reach, or on DIY searches |
Route density matters here in a way it does not for most trades. A new account 35 minutes off your nearest route costs drive time on every visit for as long as it stays. We look at where new accounts land, not only how many there are.
What happens in the session
- Confirm your goal For example revenue growth or new locations
- Review what you run now Google profile, website, ads and follow-up, live
- Your five next moves In order, with rough timelines
- Decide what happens next If we are a fit we say so. If not, you keep the plan.
What you leave with
You leave with five moves ranked by impact, each with who does it and by when. The list is yours whether you hire us or not. Some moves are fixes you can make that week. Others are projects.
Example only, to show the format. A list for a hypothetical company might read:
- Quote every initial service with a plan attached, and add an automatic follow-up text after the first visit. Owner: office manager. Date: this month.
- Add a termite inspection page aimed at home buyers and their agents before swarm season. Owner: us or your web vendor. Date: by late winter.
- Cut ad spend outside your route map and in hours nobody answers. Owner: whoever runs Google Ads. Date: this week.
- Send a review request once each initial service has visibly worked, usually after the follow-up visit. Owner: office manager, by text. Date: next Monday.
- Build a fall rodent offer for existing plan customers. Owner: owner. Date: before the first cold snap.
Your list will differ, because it comes from your numbers.
Who runs it
The consultation is founder-led: Trevor Shirk, who founded VETS Growth Marketing and served in the U.S. Army, runs the diagnosis himself. It is a working session, not a pitch with a slide deck. He asks for the numbers, opens the accounts with you, and says what he sees, including when the fix is something your own team can handle without us.
That is the point of a diagnosis. You should know what is wrong before anyone sells you a treatment.
How to prepare
- Export your active plans. From PestPac, GorillaDesk or FieldRoutes, pull active recurring accounts and how many cancelled in the last twelve months.
- Pull new accounts by source. If your software records a lead source, export new accounts from the last year with that field. If it does not, note that; it is a finding in itself.
- List your services by revenue. General pest, termite, rodent, mosquito and anything else, roughly ranked.
- Open your Google access. Make sure you can sign in to your Business Profile and any Google Ads or Local Services Ads account. If an agency holds the login, ask for access before the call.
- Find your call log for a peak week. A week in late spring shows how many calls went unanswered when it mattered most.
- Write down one goal. A number of new plans, a revenue target or a date you want to hire another technician by.
How VETS Growth Marketing helps
If the five moves make sense and you want them done for you, we scope them as a project with outcomes and dates, in accounts that stay in your name, and report in booked plans and cost per new client. If not, you keep the plan. Bring your exports to a growth consultation.
