Key takeaways
- A useful consultation starts from your booked moves by source, not from a package someone wants to sell.
- Movers lose most value in three places: shared leads, slow replies to estimate requests, and marketing aimed at dates that are already full.
- Bring last season's numbers from your moving software. Lead source and booking rate matter more than traffic.
- You leave with five ranked moves, each with an owner and a date.
A marketing consultant for a moving company should be able to tell you why the phone goes quiet in weeks when your trucks should be full, and which fix comes first. Our free growth consultation does that. We trace each estimate request from the search or ad that produced it to the move it did or did not become, then rank what to fix.
What a growth consultation covers
The consultation covers the whole path from a customer's trigger, such as a home sale, a new job or a lease ending, to a booked move. Most movers have spent money on the top of that path while the leaks sit further down.
- Your Google profile. Categories, service areas, truck and crew photos, and how your review pace compares with the movers ahead of you in Maps.
- Your website. Whether the estimate form asks for move date, origin, destination and home size, whether it loads quickly on a phone, and whether a wary customer can see you are a real, licensed mover.
- Your paid leads. What you spend on Google Ads, Local Services Ads where your category and area qualify, and lead aggregators that sell the same name to several movers.
- Your follow-up. How fast an estimate request gets a reply, and what happens to the quotes that do not book. Moving customers compare several movers, so the second and third touch decide a lot.
- Your calendar. Which summer weekends and end-of-month dates are full every year and which midweek and winter dates sit empty. Marketing that fills a Saturday you already turned work away for is wasted.
- Your moving software. What SmartMoving, Supermove or your own system already records about lead source and booking rate, and what it is missing.
What happens in the session
- Confirm your goal For example revenue growth or new locations
- Review what you run now Google profile, website, ads and follow-up, live
- Your five next moves In order, with rough timelines
- Decide what happens next If we are a fit we say so. If not, you keep the plan.
What you leave with
You leave with five moves, ranked by the value they are likely to add, each with who does it and by when. The list is yours whether or not you hire us.
Here is the kind of list a mover might leave with. It is an illustration of the format, not a client's results.
| Rank | Move | Why it ranks there | When you would know |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Send every web estimate request a reply within minutes, including evenings | A customer collecting several quotes often books the mover who replied first | Within weeks |
| 2 | Tag lead source in your moving software and stop the aggregator that books least | Shared leads look cheap and book rarely | One billing cycle |
| 3 | Split local and long-distance ads onto separate landing pages | Each search sees the right price model and form | A few weeks of spend |
| 4 | Shift budget from peak Saturdays to midweek and off-season dates | Full dates do not need more demand | Next season |
| 5 | Build a review routine at the end of every move day | Reviews feed Google's prominence signal in Maps | Months |
Who runs it
The consultation is founder-led. Trevor Shirk, VGM's founder, is a U.S. Army veteran and former Ranger-qualified engineer officer with more than ten years in digital marketing and business strategy. A diagnosis needs someone who can read the accounts, not a script. The review works from your numbers, says plainly where the money is going, and tells you when the fix is something you can do yourself.
How to prepare
- Export last season from your moving software. From SmartMoving, Supermove or whatever you use, pull leads, estimates sent and booked moves by month, with lead source if you record it.
- List every paid lead source. Ads, aggregator subscriptions and directory listings, with roughly what each cost last year.
- Mark your capacity. How many trucks and crews you run, which dates you turned away, and your slowest months.
- Share access where you can. Manager access to your Google profile, Google Ads and Analytics makes the review concrete. Read-only is fine.
- Bring one recent lost quote. A move you estimated and did not get. Walking through it shows where the path leaks.
Most owners can do this in under an hour. If you cannot get the exports, come anyway; we will work from what you have. The moving and storage industry overview shows how the pieces fit, and the marketing guide for movers covers the channels in more depth.
How VETS Growth Marketing helps
If you want us to carry out the plan, we scope it as projects with outcomes and dates, in accounts that stay in your name, with no long-term contract. We report in booked moves and cost per move, the numbers you already price crews and trucks on. Book a growth consultation and bring last season's numbers.
