Key takeaways
- The symptom is usually "not enough calls". The cause is often missed calls, unchased estimates or paying for the wrong job types.
- A consultation reviews your Google profile, website, ads and follow-up against the jobs in your field software.
- You leave with five ranked next moves, each with the first step and the effort it takes.
- Bring a jobs-by-source report from ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber, and your open estimates.
A marketing consultant for an electrical contractor should diagnose before prescribing. VETS Growth Marketing's free growth consultation traces where your service calls come from, where they leak, and what that costs you, then ranks the five moves that would add the most booked work. It looks past the symptom an owner usually reports, "we need more leads", to the cause underneath.
What a growth consultation covers
A growth consultation covers the full path from the moment a homeowner's breaker trips, or an EV gets delivered, to the moment a tech is booked. We look at each stage for the hidden problem, because the visible one is rarely the real one.
| What we review | What we check for an electrician | The hidden problem it can reveal |
|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Categories, services list (panel upgrades, EV chargers, generators), photos, review content, service areas | A profile that ranks for "electrician" but never for the installs that pay best |
| Website | A page for each core service, tap-to-call, license number shown, mobile speed | EV charger and generator visitors landing on a generic homepage and leaving |
| Google Ads and Local Services Ads | Search terms, job types switched on, ad hours, negative keywords | Spend going to "electrician jobs", utility outage searches or job types you don't run |
| Follow-up | What happens to a missed call, an unbooked estimate, a quote for a panel swap | Quoted generator and panel jobs that nobody follows up after the first visit |
| Tracking | Whether a booked job in your field software carries its lead source | No way to tell which channel produced the work, so budgets are set by feel |
Your Google profile gets particular attention, because for a service business it is often the first thing a customer sees, and Google's ranking of it rests on relevance, distance and prominence (how Google ranks local results).
What happens in the session
- Confirm your goal For example revenue growth or new locations
- Review what you run now Google profile, website, ads and follow-up, live
- Your five next moves In order, with rough timelines
- Decide what happens next If we are a fit we say so. If not, you keep the plan.
What you leave with
You leave with five next moves, ranked by the booked work each is likely to add and the effort each takes. Each move is written so you, your office manager or any agency could act on it the following week.
Here is the shape of one move. It is an illustration, not a finding from a real account:
- Move: Send every missed call on the main line an automatic text within a minute.
- Why: Calls ring out when the on-call tech is in an attic or under a panel, and those callers try the next electrician on the map.
- Effort: A few hours of setup in your phone system or CRM, plus registration for business texting.
- First step: Pull last month's missed-call count from the phone system.
If a move is better done in-house, or by a vendor you already pay, we will say so. To rough out your own list before the call, the five-move plan for electricians starts from the same kind of leak count.
Who runs it
The consultation is founder-led. Trevor Shirk started VETS Growth Marketing. He is a U.S. Army veteran and former Ranger-qualified engineer officer with more than ten years in digital marketing and business strategy. The approach is diagnostic: understand how your shop actually takes calls, quotes and schedules work, find the constraint, then decide what to change. It is not a pitch for a package chosen before the call started.
That matters for electricians because the fix differs so much by shop. A two-truck residential outfit that cannot answer the phone during the day needs something different from a fifteen-tech shop with a dispatcher, a commercial division and a generator crew.
How to prepare
- Write your goal in one line. For example: more panel upgrades and EV charger installs, and fewer small repair calls across town. A clear goal changes which five moves come out on top.
- Export jobs by source from your field software. From ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber, pull the last 12 months of booked jobs and revenue by job type and lead source. If lead source is blank on most jobs, bring that anyway. It is a finding in itself.
- Bring your call numbers. Total inbound calls, missed calls and after-hours calls from your phone system or call tracking, for the last 90 days if you have them.
- List your open estimates. Count the panel upgrade, generator and EV charger quotes from the last 90 days that have not been sold or declined.
- Find your logins, or who holds them. Google Business Profile, Google Ads and Local Services Ads, Meta, your website host and your domain registrar. Knowing who owns each account is part of the review, because years of conversion data in an ad account (how Google Ads measures conversions) only help you if the account is in your name.
- Note your capacity. How many licensed electricians and apprentices you run, and how far out you are booked. There is no point generating calls you cannot staff, so capacity shapes the plan.
How VETS Growth Marketing helps
The consultation is free, and the five moves are yours to keep. If you want us to run them, each becomes a project with an outcome and a date, done inside accounts in your name, and reported as booked calls and cost per customer from your own job data. Book a growth consultation and bring your jobs report. If your Google profile is the first suspect, the Google Business Profile guide for electricians is a good read beforehand.
