Key takeaways
- LSA charges per call or message, not per click. One Google Verified badge replaced the old badges, and the money-back guarantee ended.
- Eligibility depends on category and location. Check Google's requirements for movers in your area before planning around it.
- LSA is moving into Google Ads as Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals. Most movers have no storefront, so they move in a later wave.
- Switch on only the moves you run, answer every lead fast, and judge LSA on cost per booked move.
Local Services Ads for a moving company charge per call or message rather than per click, show above the regular results with a Google Verified badge, and are moving into Google Ads. Whether movers in your area can run them depends on category and location, so check eligibility before you plan a season around them.
How LSA works
LSA works on leads. A customer taps Call or Message on your listing, that contact is the lead, and Google bills it inside the weekly budget you set (how leads work). Much of what movers have read about LSA is out of date. Four terms explain how it works now:
The badge : In October 2025, one Google Verified badge replaced Google Guaranteed, Google Screened and License Verified by Google. The Google Guarantee money-back program ended with it, so a vendor who still sells it as a refund promise is working from old information.
Credits : Credits are now automatic and limited to leads Google itself treats as invalid (lead credits). The old "job type not serviced" and "geo not serviced" reasons are gone, so a long-distance call you cannot take, or a pickup outside your area that your settings allowed, is yours to pay for.
Where it is managed : LSA is moving into Google Ads, where it runs as Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals (Google's transition notice). The first phase began in August 2026 for selected home and storefront service categories. Service-area businesses without storefronts, which describes most movers, are scheduled for a later wave starting late 2026. Leads are still calls and messages, the ads still show on Search and Maps, and budgets and lead replies move into Google Ads with no manual bidding.
Name and address : Changes to these are made on your Business Profile, so keep it accurate.
How Local Services Ads work
- Check eligibility It depends on your category and area
- Pass verification Then the Google Verified badge shows
- Show on Search and Maps At the top of local results
- A customer calls or messages You pay per lead, not per click
- Answer and mark the lead Invalid leads are not charged
Is it worth it for moving and storage companies?
LSA is worth it for a mover when the cost per booked move beats your other paid sources and someone answers every lead quickly. The badge carries weight in moving, because customers have heard about rogue movers and want a sign that someone checked you.
The fair comparison is with what you already pay for:
| Source | You pay for | Who else gets the customer | Judge it by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local Services Ads | A call or message to you | The customer may call other listed movers too | Cost per booked move |
| Lead aggregators | A name and move details | Often sold to several movers at once | Cost per booked move |
| Search ads | A click to your page | Nobody, until they leave your page | Cost per booked move |
Local and long-distance leads behave differently. A long-distance lead can carry more cost because the job is larger, but it also takes longer to close, so give it time before you judge it.
Setup and eligibility
- Check eligibility first. Look up the moving category for your area against Google's requirements (LSA requirements). Eligibility depends on category and location and can change.
- Prepare for the checks. Have your business registration, insurance and any license your category and area require ready, and expect business checks, plus background checks where Google requires them.
- Switch on only the moves you run. If you do not do long-distance, turn it off. Every job type left on can bring leads you pay for.
- Set the service area to where moves start. Not everywhere your trucks deliver.
- Set hours you can really answer. An evening call that rings out sends a customer straight to the next mover on the list, and slow replies weigh on how often you are shown.
- Set the weekly budget by season. Raise it ahead of the summer peak only if you have crews to spare, and hold it for midweek and off-season gaps.
- Connect leads to your moving software. Record every LSA lead in SmartMoving, Supermove or your own system, and mark it booked or lost.
- Check where your account will live. Watch your account for the move into Google Ads, so budgets and replies are not lost in the switch.
Ranking factors you control
You cannot buy the top spot outright, but several factors are in your hands:
| Factor | What a mover can do |
|---|---|
| Responsiveness | Answer calls live and reply to messages within minutes, in peak season too |
| Reviews | Ask every customer at the end of move day, while the crew is still there |
| Hours | List the hours someone actually answers |
| Service area | Keep it to where moves start, so you show for the customers closest to your trucks |
| Budget | Fund the weeks you need to fill |
