Key takeaways
- Do not assume a med spa can run Local Services Ads: eligibility is set per category and per area, so check Google's requirements first.
- Google Guaranteed no longer exists. One Google Verified badge replaced it, and the money-back guarantee ended.
- Lead credits are automatic, and health care verticals have no lead disputes, so a bad lead is usually a lead you pay for.
- If you are eligible, judge it on booked consultations and compare it with search ads, where you control the treatments and the copy.
Local Services Ads for a med spa are worth checking, not assuming. They are pay-per-lead ads on Search and Maps, now moving into Google Ads, but eligibility is set by category and by area, and med spas should not expect their category to be included. If you can run them, judge them on booked consultations, because health care leads cannot be disputed.
How LSA works
LSA places a short listing with a verification badge, your rating and a contact button above the regular results, and bills you for each call or message it produces instead of each click (how leads work). A few terms have changed recently, and older articles still use the old ones.
Pay-per-lead : You are charged when a prospective patient calls or messages through the ad. Clicks to your website are not the product.
Google Verified : The single badge that replaced Google Guaranteed, Google Screened and License Verified by Google. The Google Guarantee money-back program ended at the same time, so there is no guarantee to advertise to patients.
Automated lead credits : Google assesses leads on its own and does not charge for ones it judges invalid. Leads for a job type or an area you do not serve are no longer credited, and health care verticals have no lead disputes (lead credits).
Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals : Where LSA is heading. Management, budgets and lead replies move into Google Ads, manual bidding goes away, and the ads still show on Search and Maps. The move is happening in phases, by category group (Google's transition notice).
How Local Services Ads work
- Check eligibility It depends on your category and area Check first
- Pass verification Then the Google Verified badge shows
- Show on Search and Maps At the top of local results
- A customer calls or messages You pay per lead, not per click
- Answer and mark the lead Invalid leads are not charged
Is it worth it for med spas
It is worth it only if your category is eligible in your area and the leads turn into consultations at a cost a patient's repeat visits can carry. The headline question, whether Google Guaranteed is worth it, has a short answer now: that badge is gone, and the trust it used to buy no longer includes a money-back promise.
Lead quality is the real issue. A med spa call through LSA can be a new patient ready to book. It can also be someone price-shopping a per-unit rate across five clinics, someone asking about a treatment you don't offer, or someone who wants an appointment you can't give. In most trades some of that comes back as credits. If your category falls under health care, there is no dispute process, and leads for treatments you don't do are no longer credited. You pay for them.
Compare that with search ads. There you choose which treatments to advertise, write the copy within healthcare policy, send each click to a treatment page and exclude the searches you don't want. For many med spas that control matters more than the pay-per-lead model. The Google Ads guide for med spas covers that setup.
Setup and eligibility
- Check eligibility before anything else. Read Google's LSA requirements and try the sign-up flow for your category and area. If your category is not offered, stop here and put the budget into search ads.
- Make sure your Business Profile is verified and accurate. Name, address, hours and phone must match your clinic. Name and address changes are now made on the Business Profile itself.
- Complete the checks Google asks for. Depending on category, that can include business, license and background checks before the badge shows.
- Choose only the services you want. Select the treatments you take new patients for, and nothing else. With no credit for out-of-scope leads, every extra box you tick is a cost.
- Set hours your front desk actually covers. Leads that arrive when no one answers are leads you pay for and lose.
- Set a weekly budget and a reply routine. Decide who answers LSA calls and messages, and how fast.
- Tag LSA patients in Boulevard or Zenoti. Mark the source on each new patient, so you can compare cost per booked consultation with your other channels.
Ranking factors you control
You control how fast you answer, how many genuine reviews you earn, the hours you are available, and how complete and accurate your profile is. Distance from the searcher you cannot change.
- Answer speed. A front desk that picks up during consultation hours, and a text-back for the calls it misses, keeps your ads in front of more searchers. The missed-call text-back guide covers the setup.
- Reviews from every patient. Ask every patient after their visit, not only the happy ones, and never offer a discount or a free add-on for a review.
- Hours that match reality. Longer listed hours only help if someone answers during them.
- A clean profile. Accurate services, real photos of your rooms and providers, and no edits that trigger a fresh review.
If you already run LSA and the leads are poor, the bad leads guide works through what to cut.
How VETS Growth Marketing helps
We check whether LSA is open to your med spa in your area before you spend anything. If it is, we set it up in accounts you own and tag every lead through to your scheduler. If it is not, we put the budget into search campaigns you control. Either way we report cost per booked consultation, on a project with dates. Book a growth consultation and we will tell you which path fits your clinic.
