Key takeaways
- The consultation is a diagnosis of your whole path from search to booked service call, not a pitch for a package.
- For HVAC, the leaks usually hide in three places: missed calls on peak days, unsold replacement estimates, and maintenance plans that lapse.
- You leave with five moves, ranked, each with an owner and a date.
- Bring an export from ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber, and the session gets far more specific.
A marketing consultant for an HVAC company should find where calls, estimates and repeat customers are slipping away, then tell you which fixes matter most. That is what our free growth consultation does. We review your Google profile, website, ads and follow-up against how your shop actually books work, and hand you five ranked next moves.
What a growth consultation covers
It covers the full path a homeowner takes, from the search on the hottest afternoon of the year to the tech in the driveway, and what happens to that customer after the job. An HVAC business leaks at more points than most trades, because it sells three different things: urgent repairs, big-ticket replacements and recurring maintenance.
- Your Google Business Profile. Categories, service areas, hours against the hours a person really answers, and whether recent reviews mention the work you want more of. Many no-heat and no-cool calls start in the Map Pack, which Google ranks on relevance, distance and prominence (Google's ranking factors).
- Your phones on peak days. What happened to calls during the last heat wave or cold snap: answered, sent to voicemail, or abandoned on hold.
- Your website on a phone. Whether a homeowner with a dead AC can reach you in one tap, and whether a replacement shopper can see financing and what a new system involves.
- Your ads. Search terms, hours, service areas and whether calls are tracked to booked jobs (call tracking) or just counted.
- Your replacement pipeline. How many estimates go out, how many close, and what happens to the ones that do not.
- Your maintenance base. How many agreement members you have, how many renew, and whether the shoulder seasons are full or empty.
What happens in the session
- Confirm your goal For example revenue growth or new locations
- Review what you run now Google profile, website, ads and follow-up, live
- Your five next moves In order, with rough timelines
- Decide what happens next If we are a fit we say so. If not, you keep the plan.
What you leave with
You leave with five moves, in order, each with an owner and a date. Five, because a list of thirty is a list nobody finishes.
An illustration of the shape, not a real client's plan:
| Move | When | Why it ranks where it does |
|---|---|---|
| Route overflow and after-hours calls to a live answering service | Before the next heat wave | Every missed emergency call goes to the next listing |
| Add a follow-up sequence for unsold replacement estimates | This month | The homeowner already paid for a diagnosis and is still deciding |
| Build pages for heat pump and ductless installs | This quarter | High-ticket searches you cannot rank for without a page |
| Start a renewal reminder for agreements 60 days before they lapse | Before fall tune-up season | Members are the calls that fill spring and fall |
| Ask for a review by text after every completed service call | This week | Fresh reviews keep the profile competitive through peak |
The plan is written so your own office could run it. If we are a fit to do the work, we will say so. If not, the plan is still yours.
Who runs it
Trevor Shirk, the founder of VETS Growth Marketing, runs the diagnosis. He is a U.S. Army veteran and a former Ranger-qualified engineer officer, with more than ten years in digital marketing and business strategy.
For you, that means talking to the person who reads your numbers and sets the priorities, not to a rep reading a script. Expect direct questions about call answer rates, estimate close rates and margins, and a straight answer about whether we fit a shop your size.
How to prepare
- Export a year of jobs from your field service software. From ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber, pull completed jobs by type: repair, replacement, maintenance visit, indoor air quality. Include the lead source field if your office fills it in.
- Pull the estimates that did not close. Count of replacement estimates sent and sold, by month, so we can see the gap between quotes and installs.
- Get your call records. Missed and abandoned calls by hour and by day, with your busiest heat and cold days marked if you can find them.
- Know your agreement numbers. Active maintenance members today, and roughly how many renewed last year.
- Set up access. Manager access to your Google Business Profile, and view access to Google Ads and Analytics if you use them.
- Name the bottleneck. Is it calls, answering them, closing replacements, or techs to run the work? Tell us which one hurts most in July.
How VETS Growth Marketing helps
When the five moves make sense and you want them done for you, we scope them as a project with a start date, an end date and an outcome. Every account stays in your name, and you can leave whenever you like. Reports show calls answered, service calls booked, replacements sold and what each one cost to win, checked against your own software.
